Automate routine tasks with Gemini’s scheduled actions
Google is quietly turning its Gemini AI into more than just a chatbot. With a new feature called “scheduled actions”, Gemini can now perform tasks at set times, without you needing to ask.
This makes it more useful for handling repetitive work like checking emails, summarizing your calendar, or creating content templates. All of it happens on a schedule you choose.
What scheduled actions actually do
Scheduled actions let you set recurring or one-time tasks inside the Gemini app. Once set, Gemini runs them automatically — no need to re-prompt. For instance, it can send you a morning email and calendar summary or generate blog topic ideas every Monday.
The feature is available on both Android and iOS, but only if you’re on a paid Gemini subscription or a supported Google Workspace plan.
Tasks are delivered via push notifications, and you can manage all your scheduled items from a dedicated screen in the app settings.
How to set them up
Scheduling a task is simple. You type a prompt like you normally would (“Give me a weather update every morning”) into Gemini, then set the timing as a one-off or recurring action.
You can also take an existing conversation and turn it into a scheduled task. Right now, you can run up to 10 active scheduled actions at once.
What you can use them for
Some practical use cases include:
- Daily summaries of unread Gmail messages and calendar events
- Weather or news updates in the morning
- Weekly blog post ideas
- Summaries of sports results or stock market data
- Creative writing prompts on a schedule
This isn’t just limited to personal use. Business users might use scheduled actions for regular sales reports, meeting digests, or automated team reminders.

Why this update matters
Until now, Gemini mostly reacted to user input. With this update, it becomes a more active participant. By automating repeated requests, scheduled actions can save time and reduce the mental clutter of keeping up with reminders, reports, or notifications on your own.
Tightly integrated with Google apps
One of Gemini’s strengths is how well it works with other Google tools. Since it has access to things like Gmail, Calendar, and Google Docs, the scheduled results are more contextual and useful.
For example, it can pull the last 24 hours of unread emails into a summary or review calendar events for the next workday, automatically and on schedule.
Subscriptions and access
There’s a catch: Scheduled actions isn’t free. Right now, the feature is limited to those paying for Google One AI Premium or using Gemini on supported Google Workspace plans (like Business Standard or Education Plus). Free-tier users don’t have access.
Google hasn’t said whether it plans to expand access in the future.
Competing with ChatGPT
Google isn’t the only one moving in this direction. In January 2024, OpenAI launched a similar task scheduling feature in its ChatGPT app. The main difference is Google’s tight link with Gmail, Docs, and Calendar, which makes Gemini especially useful if you’re already working in that ecosystem.
This latest update shows that Google is positioning Gemini as more than just a chatbot — it wants it to be a real productivity assistant. And with scheduled actions, it’s taking a step closer to that goal. 🔥
