G Suite Essentials customers can use AppSheet at no charge

Written by Barbora Kalousková | August 4, 2020

Google lately announced a new version of G Suite - G Suite Essentials. This solution originally includes Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet. Now, Google adds one new feature - AppSheet - Google Cloud’s no-code app-development solution. App Sheet is available at no charge to G Suite Essentials customers through Sept. 30.

What exactly is AppSheet and what does “no-code” mean?

In a nutshell, AppSheet is a low code development platform. It uses Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets as a “pseudo database”. You can build mobile or desktop apps using AppSheet, even though you don’t know how to code. It's integrated with G Suite, and data from other platforms including Salesforce, Microsoft Azure and Office 365, Dropbox, and AWS, all without putting a strain on engineering or IT resources.

“Paired with G Suite Essentials, AppSheet opens up even more possibilities. It’s easy to create, read, update, and delete Sheets data directly from AppSheet apps; save and access documents, images, and files to Drive from AppSheet; open Meet from AppSheet apps for virtual meetings with team members and customers; and use Docs as dynamic templates for reports, emails, and PDFs that are saved to Drive.” says Vikas Anand Head of Product (Director) - Business Application Platform, Google Cloud

Practical use-cases for AppSheet

AppSheet is great for building business applications easily. You can use it for example in an  accounting department or to run HR processes.

Internal application for your accounting department

The screenshot below shows an example of an internal application we designed for our company. We use it to submit receipts for transactions made with the corporate payment cards. It saves tons of time of the accounting department as they no longer have to pair the receipts with each transition manually.

Below you can see an application we made for managing hiring processes in our HR department. The HR team can now easily sort candidates based on the particular stages of the process without the risk of getting lost in a complex and confusing Sheet.
