Wonderful Payments scales Fintech platform on Google Cloud

Wonderful Payments makes it simple for UK businesses to get paid instantly using “Pay by Bank” technology. Instead of waiting days for card payments to clear, money moves directly from a customer’s bank account to the business.

They are also a company with a mission; since 2016, they have processed donations for UK charities for free.

To keep up with their fast growth, they worked with Revolgy to move their systems from AWS to a more automated home on Google Cloud.

Challenge: Getting rid of manual work

As Wonderful Payments grew, their original infrastructure on AWS began to face limitations. The core issue was that they were relying on manually deployed resources, which created inefficiencies as more people started using the service.

They needed a system that could handle a large number of instant payments at once without needing constant manual updates. Their goal was to build a foundation that was easy to grow and could be repeated automatically using code.

Solution: Revolgy’s managed migration

Revolgy helped design and build a new, secure Landing Zone on Google Cloud. We used a tool called Terraform to turn their infrastructure into a digital blueprint, making it much easier to manage.

The technical solution included:

• Replatforming applications: We moved their PHP/Laravel workloads into automated Cloud Run containers.
• Database migration: Their Aurora MySQL database was successfully transitioned to Cloud SQL.
• Smart batching: We configured Google Cloud Managed Services to run batch jobs that work perfectly alongside their existing Kubernetes setup.
• Knowledge sharing: Our team mentored the Wonderful Payments staff on Google Cloud best practices to ensure they could manage the new system with confidence.
